I've always thought the Borgia popes could have been worse. Yes they were scandalous and huge sinners but they didn't try to change any of the churches doctrines or confuse the faithful with vague duplicitous statements.
Absolutely! Even though they were bad indeed, their stories were likely embellished by Italian contemporaries due to their hatred of Spaniards in their territory.
I’m interested in Alex II and William the Conqueror.
The Anglo-Saxons had long kept up a relationship with the papacy, there’s even an area of Rome called after them. Why did the pope support William? This is rarely if ever discussed in England, even in Catholic circles.

Unless I'm very mistaken, Bl. Pius IX was not St. Pius X's immediate predecessor, Leo XIII came in between.
🤦🏼♂️you’re absolutely right, great catch! Not sure how I missed that one. Thanks!
Some of the popes of the "Dark Ages" (circa 875-1000) were probably worse than Alexander VI.
As bad if not worse, most definitely!

A great question! I’ll file that one away for a deep dive in the nearer future.
This is very interesting and entertaining. Thank you.
You bet! So glad you’re enjoying it.
