[The Popecast] How the Conclave REALLY Works (w/ Donald Paul Maddox)
Today we're joined by Donald Paul Maddox, creator of the publication In Defense of Theology, to walk through every aspect of the upcoming conclave.
A quick note: I realize that it’s been mostly audio over the past couple of weeks. That’s mostly intentional, as there are plenty of other publications better equipped to cover the minutiae of the papal interregnum, and the best place we can contribute during this time are through longer-form interviews.
We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled Today in Papal History programming soon enough!
Until then, another new episode of The Popecast for your listening/viewing pleasure:
Although the papal election process has varied over the centuries, since 1996 the Catholic Church's rules governing conclaves have stemmed from a document from Pope St. John Paul II entitled Universi Dominici Gregis.
On today's episode, we're joined by Donald Paul Maddox, author of the excellent publication In Defense of Theology on Substack and co-host of the Saints in the Parish podcast, to take a deep dive into how the upcoming conclave to elect the next Successor of St. Peter will REALLY work.
